The earliest human activity in Brading can be dated back to the Neolithic Period (4000 BC – 2300 BC) and in these days Brading Roman Villa marks the Roman period where the settlements formalised.

As the oldest town on the Isle of Wight, Brading formed a major port for the island where ships would come into Brading haven for shelter and provisions. After the 16th century Brading was then reclaimed. By the 19th century Brading expanded after the arrival of the Railway station in 1894, many properties were built as a result.

Nowadays, the old harbour was reclaimed and is now known as Brading Marshes which was acquired by the RSPB as a Nature Reserve and covers much of Brading downs and extends to Bembridge Harbour which offers some notable species such as cetti’s warblers, marsh harriers and red squirrels- which the Isle of Wight provides a safe haven away from the grey squirrels.

"Thank-you so much, once again, for enabling mum's exit from hospital and her improvement since.

You were a superb support and the care team you have have put together are all brilliant"
