Older Persons Good Living Show - roundup

More than 300 Islanders turned out for the first Older Persons Good Living Show at Ventnor Botanic Gardens on Saturday 22nd April.

The event, which was organised by Right at Home Isle of Wight, was attended by over 25 businesses, charities and other organisations involved in supporting older people to live well. Services included the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, Dementia UK and Age UK.

Vicky and Paul Butler said, “Last year our registered manager, Katie Meadows, had the brainwave for the event as she had noticed how many of our clients and the wider community were unaware of the amazing services and support that the Isle of Wight has on offer. Another member of staff, Lucy Meadows, worked tirelessly to arrange the event. With support from our team, the stall holders, Ventnor Botanic Gardens, The IW Observer and Vectis Radio we managed to bring Katie’s vision to life."

Joe Robertson, of Dementia UK, said, “We were pleased to have the opportunity to meet with individuals and families and talk about the support that local Admiral Nurses provide. I would like to thank Vicky Butler and Right at Home for an informative and productive day.”

The day was a free community event to ensure as many people as possible could benefit from the information on offer. We at Right at Home Isle of Wight would like to give a special mention to Anthony Baxter, from Ventnor Botanic Gardens, for agreeing to allow free entry to the beautiful gardens that day and for the free parking. We would like to also extend a big thank you to all the stallholders who were radiating positivity and enthusiasm, they all got stuck in to the event to help us support our local community become more aware of what services are out there to aid their independence.

Due to the success, we aim to make The Good Living Show an annual event.

With this we will also be seeking more volunteers to help out during the busy day.
